Amazing experience, really enjoyed it! only wish there were more sharks and stingrays in the pool since there were probably only a couple of each.
Perfect atmosphere and activities

We had a brilliant time. There was a mix of young and old, couples, people on their own, and families and the crew got the atmosphere just right. Brenda who led the ship was an amazing host.
The snorkelling wasn’t actually amazing except the sharks and sting rays - the coral and area around was pretty devoid of anything interesting! However, the sharks were pretty epic and the rays were very cool (including if you wanted to hold one).
Free (alcoholic) drinks the whole time after snorkelling, including a demonstration of making Coco Loco, and a floating bar in a waist height bit of the sea.
Genuinely had a great time!

A fun activity for our family!! Our bus driver Santos was very kind and helpful with my limited Spanish. He took us on a tour of the animals at the entrance of the marinarium and answered my many questions :)
The boat trip and swimming in the pen was fun but a little scary for our kids as they are novice swimmers. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially Brenda!! We had a great first ocean adventure :)

Disappointing Snorkel, amazing crew and party boat.

We had the pleasure of cruising with Brenda and her team. Brenda was a brilliant hist, full of life and fun. I loved the fact there was a party section of the experience too with group dances and even a crew dance. My fav was the chunky guy at the back who didn't know the moves but had the enthusiasm and smile of a professional dancer
Great trip, just manage expectations

If you manage expeditions, you’ll have a great time on this excursion. My experience happened on November 2 and the weather was perfect. But it is true that there are no rain checks and the tour will happen even if it’s rainy and high winds.
First, it’s advertised as an open bar, which it is but the options are very limited (which makes sense given it’s a boat, but still). The options were rum, vodka, beer and a special drink of the day (a rum based drink). The mixers included ice water, orange juice, orange soda, Coca Cola, and Sprite. The rum punch was the highlight of the drinks amongst our group.
Second, they advertise as light snacks being offered but during my trip there were only two types of small sandwiches (ham and cheese and just cheese). We brought our own snacks, which is a good idea if the snacks above aren’t your favorite.
The snorkeling part of the trip was fun. The water had a school is fish around our boat so you could see the fish as you swam. The area with the stingrays and nurse sharks is small and there were only a few (at most) to see. If you’re a fan of animal rights / conservation, this isn’t the trip for you.
After snorkeling, the boat takes a short ride over to a sandbar (where other boats are docked). There was a staff member in the water with drinks so everyone was able to get one even in the sandbar.
The staff was amazing and truly made the experience. They were joyful and knew what they were doing. There were two staff members in the water to make sure no one from our boat was veering off too close to another boat and it felt safe.

We booked this through TUI our tour operator, the Marinarium team were very welcoming and great service throughout. There was quiet a few people on our boat, but it was comfortable.
First the snorkelling, the kit provided was good and clean. Options to go further out to the reef if you could swim or for non strong swimmers straight over to the "enclosures"
The sea was clear and we saw many tropical fish, we were surrounded by them at one point! It was a great experience.
The sharks were a little scary at first but great to sea. We didn't see much of the string rays. The enclosures were a little bit small and we did think the forced photos with the sting ray was a bit unkind, due to not letting the poor creature swim off.
The natural swim was pretty good! Were they brought out plenty of drinks on a floating bar, staff were all very friendly again.
Overall this was a great trip.

Where are all the sharks and stingrays??

It definitely was a fun and a memorable excursion. We were very disappointed in the amount of sharks and stingrays there only like two sharks and two stingrays at the most. There was a lot of people and nobody could find the sharks and the stingrays. You had to be on top of each other in the ocean to get a glimpse of them it was raining and choppy water. we had a great time, but not exactly what we expected.
Where's the marine life???

We had great guides for this experience. They were very friendly and helpful with younger swimmers who were skeptical and/or anxiety ridden w/ the environment they were in.
That said, I'd agree w/ some other reviews that the actual snorkeling aspect of this was okay at best. There's not enough marine life to be experienced for price paid. While we did see rays and nurse shark, the overall SNORKELING experience was underwhelming. You spent more time looking for things than actually seeing them. More space and variety of species would have made this a better experience for sure.
The “natural pool” we stopped at was just shallow area with good (not great) water. It was clear, but again, not the turquoise waters everyone loves. The DR is more vegetative so that’s probably why, but for me, the “natural pool” isn’t a selling point.
Return transfer process was very simple – find your hotel, get in the van.
Would I do it again? No. I’d want to see if I could find another option that might provide more of the snorkeling experience we would be looking for ... but maybe that's just not what the DR is knowns for.

Fun for young kids/first time snorkelers

If you are looking for lots of coral and colorful fish, this is not the trip for you. We had a fun time esp as it was my 6 year old's first time snorkeling in the ocean. He was beyond excited to see the sharks and rays. The atmosphere was lots of fun and the shoulder deep swim with drinks at the end was great. If you are looking to easily see nurse sharks and rays plus dance, enjoy the sun on the boat and have lots of simple drinks, absolutely do this! If you are a seasoned snorkeler/diver and want specialty drinks, maybe try another type of tour. At the end, we had a fun 5 minute walk along the beach back to our hotel (by choice as we didn't want to take the minivan). Definitely glad we did this!
